During last decade, microfluidic chips proved to be a powerful instrument in microbiology and biological chemistry. [1] Still, microfluidics has lots of unrealized potential partially due to a lack of adequate design tools. In this project, we’ll deal with one of the chip layout generation tools, the floor-planner. Schematically, a chip layout is shown in figure 1. In the plot, rectangles represent devices (e.g. pumps, mixers or reaction chambers) and red lines denote channels. Two types of channels are usually used on a chip, flow (used to transport some fluid/chemical/bacteria) and control (used to deliver actuating pressure to a device or set of devices) ones. A flow channel might connect several devices sequentially. A control channel tree may actuate multiple devices. A usable and useful design should satisfy a number of specifications. First
